It is the custom at the church of S. Silas the Martyr, Kentish Town, London NW5 (a Forward in Faith parish) for Votive Cards to be given by the priest to those who have their feet washed on Maundy Thursday.
Those who have their feet washed feel that it a wonderful privilege to be chosen and that they also receive a small card commemorating the event, makes it even more special.
I currently supply sets of 12 cards to a number of clergy for this occasion and they all comment how well this practice has been received.
The cards that are produced for this occasion depict either the Last Supper, or Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. The images are mainly taken from church stained glass or reredos.
I have about 40 examples to choose from. To cover my costs I make a small charge for each set of 12 cards: £4 for Votive card size or £10 for A6 (postcard size).
The date of Maundy Thursday and the name of the church where the card was given is printed on the reverse of the card.
